Cabrillo College · Film, Television & Electronic Media

Make films here.

You learn camera, sound, lighting and editing by making films. By the end of the fall you have finished one, with your name on it.

Two courses, taken together.

Video Art I and Preproduction run alongside each other every fall, with the same students in both. One teaches you to shoot and cut; the other teaches you to run a production.

AP 14A

Video Art I

Single-camera video as a lens-based art form, open to complete beginners. You make two films: a team documentary you cut yourself, then a scripted narrative short.

AP 54

Preproduction for Video, Photography, and Media

The filmmaking process taught through project management. The class takes one narrative short from idea to finished film, and every student holds a real job on it.

Students are provided the equipment to complete their projects: cameras, lights and microphones from the photo lab, and lab machines running Premiere Pro. See what the degree requires →

By the end of

fall

Your film goes in front of a room.

Everyone finishes a film. The class then votes on which ones play the festival at the end of the fall, and the audience there picks the winners.
